The next Society event will be a daytime meeting on Saturday 9th October from 11am to 4pm, with Malagasy food and music, and three speakers: Yvonne Orengo on the development projects of the Andrew Lees Trust; Ulrike Meinhof on transnational Malagasy musicians; and Daniel Austin with a slideshow of images of Madagascar.
The Society held a special meeting on Friday 9th July when John Murton, the nonresident
ambassador to Madagascar, gave a valuable insight into the work of the FCO and the current state of affairs in Madagascar. The previous meeting was held on Wednesday 16th June when Nigel Vardy gave a fascinating and entertaining talk on ‘Seventh Heaven’ relating how he climbed Mount Maromakotro on Madagascar to complete his challenge of seven peaks on seven islands. The talk was preceded by the Society’s AGM.
A summary of the talk and the minutes of the AGM can be found on our website at
www.anglo-malagasysociety.co.uk, together with much other useful information. This
includes directions to the venue for our meetings, which is the Upper Vestry Hall of
St George’s Church, Bloomsbury, London WC1A 2HR, two minutes’ walk from the
British Museum.
